Copacabana Palace

COPACABANA PALACE is a feature length film with the possibility of spinning off into a 12 episodes series made for television…

On the night of August 15th, 1946, Leonita Soto Mayor, a professional Spanish roulette player, lover of flamenco and tango, loses everything on the last day the COPACABANA PALACE casino is open… a fortune… when she learns she has no way of doubling the bet the following day, it turns into a case for the police… that’s how debt works. Leonita is forced to stay at the hotel to pay back her debt… it was like putting a fox inside the chicken coop. As a freelance writer, she writes for the Los Angeles tabloids pieces about Hollywood stars who stay at the COPACABANA PALACE in the ‘50s and other illustrious visitors in a mix of opportunistic lies and truths with clear monetary goals, which will take her to a near dead-end…

COPACABANA PALACE is a report of almost fifteen golden years of events from the ‘50s at the hotel, mixing every REAL visitor who had stayed there (RITA HAYWORTH, MARLENE DIETRICH, etc…), in untruthful junctions… OR NOT… no one will ever know. Who would be capable of saying what the illustrious celebrities who were guests there did, focusing on a GLAMOROUS decade that everyone wishes would come back? Who wouldn’t want to have witnessed the Rio de Janeiro from the ‘50s and have visited to COPACABANA PALACE hallways, a symbol of sophistication and exoticism through a narrative framed by Cole Porter’s and Carmen Miranda’s music?
