AUDIO PORTRAIT – evandro mesquita
In CHAOS GENERATION, Evandro Mesquita, vocalist and mentor of BLITZ (along with Patricia Travassos, Perfeito Fortuna, created the theater group Hoje É Dia de Rock, a fruit from Circo Voador), narrates, as a living witness of the PIER generation, the Ipanema dunes that served as base for the counterculture of the sixties… Rio de Janeiro’s own Portobelo Road, where BLITZ was born, just like many other big names whose details have yet to be revealed… The aesthetics of Caetano’s work have changed drastically, Gal Costa is a different person, Evandro is a hired TV actor… Surf music has been replaced with electronic beats… What changed? Is the dream of Pier, of California and of Hell’s Angel’s freedom over?
The series AUDIOPORTRAIT delivers the word so the artist can develop a theme that has never been talked about. It is a show about the person, not the persona, giving the spectator an opportunity to join intimately the real person. It’s like a casual conversation where the spectator is in the second row, behind the silhouette of another participant.
It is a show that stemmed from the documentary WHITE BLACK and BLUES with BB KING, filmed in a differential format… it wasn’t just the music… it was a testimony about an issue that has impacted his career and, more than anything, a life’s story. In BB KING’s case, as a blues musician, touring across America for over sixty years, he narrated the changes in African-American civil rights during the second half of the 20th century, where music had an instrumental role. As an eyewitness to everything that was going on, he has credit as a consistent narrator, mixing narrative with musical performances. It’s not the career… it’s a point of view… an AUDIO PORTRAIT. Music is only the frame where history, in form of a testimony, truly shines… great developments narrated by someone who lived them.
