AUDIO RETRATO – diogo nogueira
Invertendo o Compasso
REVERTING RHYTHMS is an analysis of changes that took place in the samba schools along the last few years, narrated by Diogo Nogueira, representative of the new elite of samba, formed within Portela, just like Paulinho da Viola. Financed by an illegal gambling game, the schools started being targeted by companies to sponsor them for marketing purposes, as soon as the parades started being broadcast globally on television. Good or bad, this new scene impacted the spectacle in an irreversible way which has rapidly turned from a popular event into a massive, outdoors opera.
The series AUDIOPORTRAIT delivers the word so the artist can develop a theme that has never been talked about. It is a show about the person, not the persona, giving the spectator an opportunity to join intimately the real person. It’s like a casual conversation where the spectator is in the second row, behind the silhouette of another participant.
It is a show that stemmed from the documentary WHITE BLACK and BLUES with BB KING, filmed in a differential format… it wasn’t just the music… it was a testimony about an issue that has impacted his career and, more than anything, a life’s story. In BB KING’s case, as a blues musician, touring across America for over sixty years, he narrated the changes in African-American civil rights during the second half of the 20th century, where music had an instrumental role. As an eyewitness to everything that was going on, he has credit as a consistent narrator, mixing narrative with musical performances. It’s not the career… it’s a point of view… an AUDIO PORTRAIT. Music is only the frame where history, in form of a testimony, truly shines… great developments narrated by someone who lived them.
